USA Storm Chasing Expedition - 13 May, 2009

Ready everyone?

What a creative little drawing..

Current fuel prices are not too bad.

Everyone at the ready..  All we need is storms.

Storms...

Sun rays.

Anvil.. (or part of it)

This was a very dangerous storm.

We had to drive around 220 miles to catch up to it.

It had multiple rain wrapped tornadoes that are very dangerous to chase.

Unfortunately 3 people lost their lives to this particular storm.

Warnings from storm spotters and chasers were put out very quickly. This saved many lives.

Around 60 structures were damaged by the tornado, which lasted around 30 minutes.

A tired day of chasing, but a sad day for the locals.

All you can do as a chaser is call in reports of certain type of storm activity.
This must be the first thing any chaser should do above all other activities.

Last tour member standing on the hill. Lightning getting close.

Inside Van1 at night.

Storm is travelling around 70mph.

Frequent lightning strikes.

Hurricane Force winds on their way.

Mark filming away here.. Before the VERY high winds hit.

Standby for strike.

STRIKE! (about 500metres away)

Another one.. not sure where.. but VERY CLOSE.

Here we have Cat 1 winds.  70+ mph.

Very rainy.

RADAR IMAGES

This is the storm we started to chase, but it all combined into a massive big mess.. (it was about 3 times the size of Sydney.) VERY LARGE.

This is the storm we ended up chasing. This radar scan shows the reports of Tornadoes..  RED boxes indicate active tornado warnings.
(Major damage and fatalities in Kirksville, MO)
