USA Storm Chasing Expedition - 01 May, 2009

This could be the start of something big.

Hmmm.. Perhaps not.

Hail core can be seen of a supercell.

Actually, this might just turn into something.

Semi Nice Structure.

Rotation can be seen.

Definite rotation, but no confirmed tornado quite yet.

Other chasers, some of them from Austria (NOT Australia)

Over the hill I go.

Now, that's a nice structure shot.

Rotating base.

Had to drive south, hail core heading my way.

Would you believe a penny sized hail stone actually fell 22kms from the storm core. Now that's a vicious updraft.

Nice structure shot.

A little foreground material in shot.

Without the post.. Spot the anvil?

Yet another angle.. It does look nice after all.

Wide angle lens deployed.

Storm chaser parking "HERE!"

More chasers.

Storm dying out.. This WAS the updraft 15 minutes ago..

Storm chaser convention at 9.30pm.. In some petrol station.

Bad shot.. but I'm trying to spot a night time tornado.

Some proper time exposure shots now.

Shot of the day.

Also nice.

RADAR IMAGES

Storm chasers can be seen positioning themselves.

Aha.. A cell has fired up.. Let's go after it.

Two cells.. I'm going for the north one.

Oops.. Now it's heading for me.

Time to run.. (Or drive south)

Heaps of storm chasers escaping the core.

Lots of chasers going for dinner.

Heading for Seymour TX.

After dinner, these cells fired up.

I chased it into the night.

Ducking down the right side of the cell.

It's catching up...

I beat the storm.

Trying to outrun the core.

Nearly there.

Beat it.

Getting around the back. This is where I took the night time lightning shots.
