USA Storm Chasing Expedition - 26 May, 2008
![]()
Debris!!!... We have debris..
![]()
Silo anyone?
![]()
Hmmm... strange angle here..
![]()
Cross now or be delayed 7 minutes..
![]()
We have mail.
![]()
A little ray of light..
![]()
Nice.
![]()
The power line thing always seems to work
well.
![]()
We are stopped just outside of Greensburg,
Kansas.
![]()
Oh no!. A Tornado warned storm is
approaching us and Greensburg.
![]()
Rotation present.
![]()
Other tours admiring the view..
![]()
We have very high lightning activity at the
moment.
![]()
Very dangerous situation,
![]()
Storm front is very strong.
![]()
Great colours in the sky.
![]()
Hail front is approaching.
![]()
Getting closer.
![]()
Much closer.
![]()
Ok... it's upon us now.
![]()
Some of these are golf ball sized.
![]()
Not massive hail, but more than enough to
turn your car into a golf ball.
![]()
HAIL ANYONE?
![]()
:)
![]()
Cool... (Actually Technically Freezing)
![]()
Measuring time.
![]()
Welcome to Greensburg.
![]()
Oh No.. Storm heading through
Greensburg AGAIN!.
![]()
You would think one EF5 Tornado is enough.
![]()
Not fair.
![]()
The poor residents are traumatised enough.
![]()
Scary clouds overhead.
![]()
Rotation has already passed, thankfully no
damage.
![]()
A ruined building.
![]()
A lone farmhouse stands tall.
![]()
Storm spotters everywhere.
![]()
We are all hiding under a massive awning.
Massive hail fell for about 10 minutes. Absolutely incredible.
It was so loud you could barely hear yourself scream.
![]()
Everyone guarded by the shelter.
![]()
Well.... At these wind speeds the rain went
sideways...
![]()
Got a little wet taking these photos.
![]()
A little... Well... Ok...
Soaked.
![]()
Very Soaked.
![]()
Ok... Even my bones got wet.
![]()
Amazing I managed to keep the lens dry.
![]()
Damn it was fun.
![]()
As you can see.. I am the only one outside
the vans.
![]()
Can anyone say.. "Exclusive Photos"
:)
![]()
Heading back on the road... It's safe to
come out and chase again..
![]()
Lots of chasers on the Spotter Network.
![]()
Ok.. It's getting heaver again.
![]()
Trying to catch up to the storm.
![]()
The storm has managed to back build, and we
are stuck in it now.
![]()
Very dark.
![]()
Still carefully watching the skies.
![]()
We are watching very closely.
![]()
Rotation is still possible
![]()
We now in near Pratt, Kansas. We thought
the storm had finished for the day, BUT it decided to suddenly drop
a small tornado right in the town and few hundred yards away from us.
![]()
Charles just got off the phone to the
National Weather Service and reported a confirmed Tornado.
Our report turned the storm into a Tornado Warned Storm and the sirens started
blaring soon after.
![]()
The worst place to be in a Tornado warned
storm is in a city.
![]()
Funnel just lifted.
![]()
Very dangerous situation.
![]()
Our view is blocked by structures.
![]()
There it is...
![]()
Rotation is very much there.
![]()
No real funnel at this point, but you can
still make out the shape.
![]()
There's our Tornado report and newly issued
red watch box.
![]()
Wall cloud.
![]()
Damn.
![]()
Scary..
![]()
Massive storm.
![]()
This storm was dead.
![]()
Then it decided to re-form...
![]()
This is not very common.
![]()
What a wall cloud.
![]()
Still looking for a Tornado.
![]()
Wow.
![]()
Wow Squared.
![]()
Other chasers escaping the town.
![]()
Eric taking some nice shots. (To the right)
![]()
Getting closer.
![]()
Much closer.
![]()
A little later after these series of the
photos a large Tornado dropped down right on the highway.
![]()
It happened just as we were getting back in
the vans.
![]()
![]()
Hi Eric.
![]()
Looking for the perfect shot.
![]()
Beaver tail.
![]()
![]()
![]()
Damn that's low.
![]()
Getting darker.
![]()
It's not really that dark.. it's just me
playing with the exposure..
![]()
Stopped for a quick break.
![]()
There's Dan from the Netherlands.... Hi
Dan.
![]()
BANG!. This strike happened 20
seconds before Chris Smith from the 2GB Drive Show did a live radio interview
with me.
![]()
Some shots from the hotel.
![]()
Pretty.
![]()
Storm is fading away into the distance.
