USA Storm Chasing Expedition - 25 May, 2008

Nice arrangement of clouds here.

Mammatus clouds seen in the distance.

Aha..  A possible funnel.

Hmmm.  a bit hard to confirm at this stage.

This is definitely on the ground, but still can not confirm rotation.

Nice storm.

A funnel is really trying hard to form.

A very slow moving storm is right above us.

Rotation is very clear and looks striking against the silo.

This one is going on my wall.

So scary..

Funnel trying to drop.

Everyone huddled together watching the amazing sight.

Richard happily filming away here.

There is it..  a confirmed "baby" tornado... hit the ground for only a few moments.

Funnel is still there, but not very strong.

A little more visible.

Ok....  time to go.... ???

Vans reversing, everyone able outrun the very slow speed of the storm.

Rotation is well and truly above us.

A scary moment..  A tornado could have dropped right on top of the vans at this point. Albeit a very weak one.

Richard LOOK OUT... you are about to be run over.

Storm is still trying.

Nice shot of Richard...  His wife is going to love this one...

Talk about rotation...  Would you drive under this??  (I would)

Look like someone is hitting the breaks..

Yes George It's beautiful.

Funnel trying once more.

oooohhhhh.

We have all headed East, letting the storm catch up to us.

Nice Beaver Tail here.

Outflow boundary.

Stuart nicely framed in shot.

A lightning strike hit very close, moments before this shot was taken.

Errr...   5 Point turn with this behind you...  This was not meant to be in the driving test....

Scary..

Kinda creepy eh?

The storm about to do something magical.

Hi Stuart..  So.... How's things?

Wind is picking up.

Look at what we found... A land spout.

Very nice.

Didn't last very long.

Lots of storm chasers on the road now.

Me..

One of the new Mobile Doppler Radar Trucks.

Radar analysing the storm

Funnel?

Possibly?

Hmmm.... No.

This is a great storm, but not enough wind shear to create a tornado.

It's catching up to us.

Wall cloud forming nicely.

Wall cloud getting closer.

Closer...

Time to go soon...   Hail shaft approaching.

And when I say hail shaft.. I mean baseball sized hail.. (Actual reports were submitted confirming this hail size)

Sun starting to set..

Another 3 point turn..

Now we have a wall cloud.

Beautiful.

What a day.

P.S. The blue area in the lower clouds is HAIL!!

Lucky timing.

Just missed a great bolt..!

That's some low cloud there..

Cool...

Production crew getting some nice shots.
