USA Storm Chasing Expedition - 14 May, 2008

Nice storm

Wall cloud heading to the left.

Dangerous storm.

A bird soon to be sucked into the inflow.

Bird gone!

Its like watching a giant vacuum cleaner at work.

Rain shower taking over the supercell.

There was some tennis ball sized hail in this storm.

It's like a scary movie.

Caught in a small part of the storm driving through a town.

Hurricane Force Winds..

Water on road.... errr..  I mean river on road.

Slippery when wet... (Especially with an 80mph crosswind)

Cows eating away... much like sitting ducks.

Pea sized hail catching up with the car.

A river letting loose on the recent drenching.

Power lines waiting to be hit by lightning..

errr..  Charles..  I think there's a BSC coming...
(Big Scary Cloud)
Actually... this cloud is rotating.. We are waiting for a Tornado to drop down in front of us. (or on us)

A little rotation showing on the left.

There it is...  C'mon...  Drop a tornado..

This photo was taken about 40 seconds before a lightning bolt hit across the other side of the road.
George said on the radio.. "Yep.. This storm is actively trying to kill us"

The radar showing the rotation on the supercell..  we are the white dot and circle thing on the map (near the brown road)

Looking back at the storm... (Now chasing us)

Unbelievably after the first near strike, we all get out once again.

I'm near the van this time, so I can duck in for cover quickly..

The rotating supercell drawing nearer.

Closer..

Looking back at our team...

Here we have Scott McPartland happily filming away.

The storm did not take long to get to us.

We managed to find a great vantage spot to watch the storm hit a small city.

Rotation above the town on the tornado warned storm...  Sirens blaring..

The back edge of the storm.

What a shot..

Hail hitting the city.

Now comes the hurricane CAT1 winds.

Recovering and sharing stories of the near death lightning strike today.
